Herbert Smith
Smith, Herbert RENSSELAER Herbert "Herbie" C. Smith, age 74, of Partition Street,
passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Herbie
was born in Rensselaer and was a lifelong resident of the city. He worked as a forklift
operator for Ruch Dis-tributors and retired in 1996. Herbie was an avid NY Yankee
fan and a NY Giants football fan. He also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and fishing. Loving
husband of 44 years to Ruth Alkinburgh Smith. Father of Bonnie (Bob Motzer) Smith,
Herbert "Smitty" Smith and Louis (Jodi) Smith. Grandfather of Alden, Amanda, Adam,
Kaileigh and Kaden. Brother of the late Louis J. Smith. Also survived by his
daughter-in-law Kim Smith; several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be from the
W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer Saturday at 4
p.m. All are welcome to attend. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the
funeral home prior to the service from 2-4 p.m. Contributions in Herbie's memory
